The basic idea of CNC machine tools is to use programs to control the relative motion of cutting tools and workpieces to cut materials. The most common three-axis machine tool has three mutually perpendicular linear axes, X, Y, and Z, and the tool can only move along these three directions. During machining, the direction of the tool axis is always fixed. This brings a limitation: when encountering complex surfaces, such as twisted surfaces of blades or narrow flow channels between impellers, the tool will interfere with the workpiece, unable to reach the machining position, or can only use a ball end tool to "rub" little by little, resulting in low efficiency and poor surface quality. Five axis machine tools add two rotation axes in addition to the three linear axes - allowing the workpiece to rotate and the spindle to swing, so that the tool can approach the workpiece in any direction and complete multi-faceted machining in one clamping.
