Parallel kinematic machine tools overcome the inherent shortcomings of traditional serial-actuated machine tools, such as heavy moving parts, low system stiffness, fixed tool feed along fixed guides, limited operational degrees of freedom, and insufficient flexibility and maneuverability in machining. They employ a multi-link parallel connecting mechanism between the spindle (typically the moving platform) and the base (typically the stationary platform). By adjusting the lengths of the links, the supported platform achieves corresponding degrees of freedom in motion. This enables multi-axis coordinated CNC machining, assembly, and measurement functions, making them well-suited for complex specialty parts. Additionally, they offer the advantages of modern robotic systems, including high modularity, lightweight design, and rapid operation.
